Today’s Reading, 40-42
Focal Scripture: Job 42:7 “After the Lord had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.”
Being called out is never a fun experience. Being called out by the Lord is even more difficult. Here we see Jobs friend being told that God is angry with them. The reason is because they have misspoken about the character of God.
This simple truth has many applications. First, our theology of God really does matter. To often people say they don’t want theology but we are all theologians. The friends of Job are being exposed for violating Gods character.
Second, God cares about his reputation. Here we see that he is angry because he is not being represented correctly. How many times would God be angry at us with what we say about him?
This implies that we should know God. Not just in a small way but know him intimately. Too often excuses are made about biblical expectations. These expectations are in place so we can know God and explain him to others.
After all theology can be defined as what we know about God and how we explain that knowledge to others. So I encourage you today to know God deeply and speak about him biblically.
It will change your life and the life of others around you!
Tomorrow I plan on reading Psalms 1-8
