Are You Becoming Stronger in the Spirit?

Today’s Reading, Luke 1

Focal Scripture: Luke 1:80 “The child grew up and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance to Israel.”

Watching somebody grow up is a privilege. Watching someone grow up spiritually is an honor and a blessing. Right now I am thinking about my son and just how amazing it has been to see him change physically. However, seeing him grow spiritually is even more astonishing. Why? Because I know it will benefit him not just in this life but for all of eternity.

In today’s reading we read about John the Baptist. We know about the proclamation of what he would do, what he would eat, and his mission to introduce the Savior to the world. This verse tells us that he became strong in spirit. At the same time he was in seclusion in the wilderness until his ministry started. John was special but he still had to have time to become the person God intended.

So the question I have for you and for myself is penetrating. Are we growing spiritually? Are we being patient and learning, even if it means we are out in the wilderness? Spiritual growth requires work. It even requires a personal decision to not be stagnant in your faith.

I challenge you to grow spiritually. Do whatever it takes to become a passionate follower. Push the limits of your faith. When you are in the wilderness learn as much as you can because that is where you will be prepared for the task God has set aside for you to accomplish.

John was only able to be the forerunner for the Savior because he knew God deeply. As believers we have to stop making excuses about our spiritual depth. Nothing is more important than our personal walk with the Lord. Unfortunately, to many believers don’t want to grow. They are satisfied with a weak faith and no spiritual depth.

Don’t let that be you! Spend time with the Lord and develop a strong spirit.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Luke 2-3
