Today’s Reading, Mark 4-5
Focal Scripture: Mark 4:3 “Listen! Consider the sower who went out to sow.”
What are you known for sowing? This word doesn’t mean to put two things together like sewing. It means to plant seed by scattering it on the Earth. We are all teaching and planting a theology whether we realize it or not and as believers our seed is the word of God. However, in our current culture many people don’t sow the word they only sow their personal opinions.
In our focal verse today Jesus is talking about the sower and the seed that he was casting out for others to hear and respond to in their lives. The Bible tells us that the seed fell on four types of ground. Some hear the truth and Satan steals it from them because the ground is shallow. Another hears the word with joy but it has no roots and quickly dies. Some seed is grown among thorns but the world chokes it out. Then only one received the word and produced fruit because of the good ground it fell upon. 3/4 people who had the seed sown had it fall on bad ground.
The sower did not know this was going to happen. All the sower knew is that he had seed to spread and told everyone he came into contact with the truth of the scriptures. His job was not to figure out who was who. He was not concerned with their personal choices because they had to decide what they were going to believe. His job was to clearly give the people the seed and then they had to make a decision to believe the word or reject the word.
The challenge I have for you today is to give the word to the people. Give it to everyone you come in contact with because you don’t know who will receive the truth and who will reject the truth. It doesn’t matter how they look. Finical status doesn’t matter and popularity doesn’t matter. All that matters for us personally is to share the word of God so that the seed has a chance to be planted in their life.
We need more sowers of the truth in our culture. We need to be bold and loving when we declare biblical truth. We need to keep giving the word because we never know when the ground in someone’s life will be different and the seed can start taking root.
Be a sower and give the people what they need.
