Call Unto The Lord

Today’s Reading, Jeremiah 32-34

Focal Scripture: Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know.”

Trying to reach someone when it’s important can be very intense. Especially, in our days of cell phones when there is almost an expectation that someone should respond fairly quickly when you contact them. Why? Because if you are contacting them you have a question or a series of questions that need an immediate answer. If you are married you have had conversations like that with your spouse. You reach out to them and need information in a hurry but you get no response.

In today’s reading we see God make a deceleration that if the nation of Israel called upon him he would answer. Not only would he answer he would tell them great and mighty things they don’t know. This promise is intense if you look at it in context. God is giving them the green light to ask difficult questions and they are guaranteed to get an answer. God knows that their hearts need answers.

I am not sure about you but I ask many questions. Rarely do I just do something because I was asked. I want to know the reason and the purpose behind the request. What is the goal and what is the long term plan? I have learned over the years that this really bothers people. Not to mention that many people even find this rude and offensive. If you don’t do exactly what they expect when they expect it, they will label you a trouble maker.

Why do I bring this up? Because this verse tells us that God cares about our questions. He wants his people to call upon him and seek answers. The Old Testament and the New Testament are full of verses that teach us to pray for wisdom and knowledge. We are then told that God will answer us and show us these answers. This means our life should be trained to call upon the Lord in every situation. It also means we can expect answers when we pray.

Remember this does not mean we will get the desired answer we want but it does mean that he will answer. The take away from today’s reading is to trust the Lord and know that when we call upon him he will answer and meet us right where we are in our lives.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Jeremiah 35-37
