Crumbs

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matt 4:4)

I have a little bit of a sweet tooth. Actually, I love sweets. Especially, ice cream and cheesecake. I am not supposed to have any of those because they are not good for me. However, at times the desire to eat sweets wins.

That desire for sweets is often strong but is the desire for Jesus greater? Jesus claimed in (John 6:35) to be the “Bread of Life”. The people desired to be feed. They wanted to see manna from Heaven and have their daily needs meet. But Jesus had a better way. Jesus told them that the Father in Heaven gave them true bread. He let them know directly that he was the bread they needed. Jesus claimed to be able to give life because of his position with the Father. He is telling the audience that he is what they need, nothing else.

Since Jesus is the Bread of Life, let me ask you this question. How much do you desire him on a daily basis? How much do I desire him on a daily basis? Do I desire Jesus more than I want sweets? Do you have something in your life that you want more than Jesus?

God wants us to be satisfied in him. The Bible is clear that God will meet all of our needs. However, do I go searching for God with the same zeal and passion that I search to satisfy my sweet tooth? The same way that my longing for sweets is never really satisfied, my soul will not be satisfied unless I go to the one who can satisfy it on a daily basis.

Sometimes I only go after crumbs in my pursuit of Christ. What would happen if I sat down and feasted with Christ?

Are you settling for crumbs or going after all that Christ has to offer?
