Don’t Be Afraid

Today’s Reading Haggai 1-2

Focal Scripture: Haggai 2:5 “This is the promise I made to you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit is present among you; don’t be afraid.’”

When you’re given a big assignment it can seem overwhelming. You’re thinking of everything that needs to get done and how that assignment or task can be accomplished well. Then you start thinking about all the things that can go wrong. You may even question if you are the right person to be given the task to complete. You may not admit it but you’re afraid of failing.

This is where we find our reading today. Haggai the prophet was given the task to tell the people it is time rebuild the temple. However, instead of the temple being the focus it was everyone’s own place of dwelling. Even though God has engaged the Israelites fear hindered them from stepping out and rebuilding the temple. This is why we see in the focal verse to remember what God has done in the past, focus on his presence, and then don’t fear.

So what is God asking you to do that you’re afraid to do? Is he wanting you to step out in faith in some area? Do you need to follow the Lord in an avenue that you don’t understand? Maybe you need to trust him in your finances. Whatever your circumstance don’t be afraid. Remember what God has done in the past. Rely on his spirit in the present. Then don’t fear about what happens.

I can tell you from personal experience that trusting God is worth it. It can be scary sometimes but we must give that fear to the Lord. As believers we need to have an attitude of not being afraid. Why, you may ask? Because if God has called us to it he will accomplish it for his glory. It may not look pretty and that’s ok. God just wants our obedience.

Tomorrow I Plan on reading Zechariah 1-7
