Faithful Prayer In Distress

Today’s Reading 2 Kings 20-22

Focal Scripture: 2 Kings 20:5-6 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, ‘This is what the Lord God of your ancestor David says: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Look, I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the Lord’s temple. I will add fifteen years to your life. I will rescue you and this city from the grasp of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.”

Hezekiah was terminally ill. He was facing death and in desperation he cried out to the Lord. His plea was so desperate that he was weeping. Hezekiah was desperate to hear from the Lord.

In Hezekiah’s desperation the Lord heard him. He was promised to be healed. He was also promised deliverance from his enemies. He was completely focused on God doing a work in his life and the people that he was leading.

This is a great lesson for us all. Sometimes we pray out of duty. We don’t pray because we are urgently and desperately seeking the face of the Lord. I would argue that every prayer we give should be desperate and passionate. Even when we are thanking the Lord for watching out for us in our lives.

If you are going through a difficult time don’t run from the Lord run to him in prayer. I can personally attest that this is the only way you will find peace. When you go through situations that are causing you pain, you have others who want to see you destroyed, or agendas are being pushed, give it to the Lord and allow him to work.

Prayer in these situations are not just encouraged but required. To often we try to fight our own battles but the Lord knows our need. Things change when we are faithful in prayer. However, most of us are not willing to pay the price.

So no matter what is causing you distress pray earnestly to the Lord. Remember nothing can happen to you without the Lord’s consent. Your enemy may think they have you but be faithful and talk to the Lord.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 2 Kings 23-25
