Today’s Reading, Psalms 106-107
Focal Scripture: Psalms 107:14 “He brought them out of darkness and gloom and broke their chains apart.”
Have you ever been in a very dark place? I have, and each time it was nerve-racking. In one particular instance, I was camping with some friends in the woods. That night, it was extremely cold, we didn’t have a fire, and we had zero moonlight. We all thought we were tough, and then the darkness hit, and it spooked all of us the rest of the night. We were unable to see a few feet in front of us, which made everything difficult. It was like this all night until the sun started to break through. It was a welcome relief for everyone who was outside.
In today’s reading, we see how the Lord works in the life of those who are devoted completely to him. When they are in darkness, he brings them to the light. When they are bound with chains, he breaks those chains and tears them apart. God looks after his people when they are in dark places. God knows how to handle all types of difficult situations.
So are you in a dark place today? I don’t mean physically, but mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. If you are, hold onto the Lord. Know he cares about you and will bring you out of your struggles at the perfect time. I understand how being stuck in a place feels; it feels like you have no hope. I have seen the weight that people carry who are in those situations. However, your hope has to be in God and not the situation.
I challenge you today to be honest with the Lord about how the chains and darkness are impacting you and your life. It will not be an easy conversation, but one that you must have so you can admit where your weaknesses are in your life. These weaknesses can overtake you if you’re not careful and cause all types of frustration and pain.
Our goal is to put our hope in the Lord. Our thinking has to rely on God’s goodness and his ability to work in dark and gloomy places. If your heart and mind are not healthy right now, know you can trust the Lord with everything that you have. He will work in your life.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading 1 Chronicles 13-16
