Keep Your Word

Today’s Reading, Numbers 28-30

Focal Scripture: Numbers 30:2 “When a man makes a vow to the Lord or swears an oath to put himself under an obligation, he must not break his word; he must do whatever he has promised.”

Being around people you can trust is very important. I know in my personal life I make it a point to surround myself with people I can totally trust. This includes conversations and ministry. It will even include personal details about my life. Unfortunately, there are times that I have been around people that were not trustworthy. There word was meaningless.

In today’s reading we see the expectation that God puts on a man’s word. If you say you are going to do something it needs to get done. The Lord is emphasizing that a persons speech is significant. He also wants to make it clear that follow through matters. Words and actions go together.

For believers this is a simple way for us to witness. When we say we are going to do something it needs to get done. I know mistakes will get made. Miscommunication will happen and pain will come as a result. However, when that does happen we need to own the mistake and not make excuses.

The challenge for us is to commit to being trustworthy and people who keep our word. People are watching and when our words can be trusted it leads to a deeper connection. We all know the damage that comes from unreliable people. Our reputation should be such that if we say it’s going to happen it is as good as done.

Simple acts make big impressions.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Numbers 31-32
