Look and Listen

Today’s Reading, Ezekiel 40-42

Focal Scripture: Ezekiel 40:4 “He spoke to me: “Son of man, look with your eyes, listen with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for you have been brought here so that I might show it to you. Report everything you see to the house of Israel.”

When you’re given instructions that are important it is imperative that you look, listen and pay attention. Not doing so could mean that important information is missed or even misunderstood. We all know what is like to have someone not listen when we talk to them or we are the ones who miss information because our minds are elsewhere.

In the verses today we see that there is a heavenly host who will guide Ezekiel and measure the new temple. This host wants all of Ezekiel’s attention. He wants him to absorb every sentence with all of his senses and then be able to explain it to others. What Ezekiel sees is not just for him but as a prophet and a priest to explain and expound these truths to others.

The importance of looking and listening can’t be overstated. When you see or hear something amazing and important you need to get all the details. You should be able to explain what is happening and how it will impact everyone around you. The implications of this are many and can be understood that as believers we need to spend time looking and listening.

What are we to look and listen to? That would be the word of the Lord. We are called to be his ambassadors. We are called to speak for Christ. To do this we must know what we are supposed to say and explain. We must know the standard and the expectations of his kingdom. Details matter.

I encourage you today to spend time with the Lord and in the Bible so you can look and listen. Then be able to tell the people what you have seen and heard.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Ezekiel 43-45
