Our Battles Belong To The Lord

Today’s Reading, 2 Chronicles 18-20

Focal Scripture: 2 Chronicles 20:17 “You do not have to fight this battle. Position yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. He is with you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Tomorrow, go out to face them, for the Lord is with you.’””

I have a particular problem that gets me into trouble often in my spiritual walk with God. I am very impatient and try to help God out with my life circumstances. This happens if things are taking a long time or if I am in the midst of a battle. I know that scripture tells me to take life one step at a time and focus on him before I make a move. However, in my arrogance I think God needs my help to accomplish his goal and purpose.

In today’s reading we see Israel about to go to war and their enemies are numerous. The King is distraught and prays for help for him and his people. The answer was not what was expected. God was not going to help them with the battle he was actually going to fight the battle for him. Think about the words in the verse, stand still and watch the Lord work.

A few things to point out about this scenario. The King had to be obedient. He also had to do some work on his part. Faith was required to stand still and watch the Lord work. Think of how difficult that must have been to position themselves for war and then to do nothing. God wanted them prepared to fight but then to watch him fight on their behalf.

The challenge for believers is to prepare ourselves for battle but let the Lord fight on our behalf. Think about the amount of faith and trust it takes to leave our circumstances is Gods hands. Yes, we prepare ourselves. Yes, you stand and watch. However, our salvation should come from Gods power and not our own power.

When we rely on God to fight our battles we are demonstrating faith in his ability and not our own. We are declaring he is sufficient and we need a savior. I am not sure what you are dealing with today but it’s time to let God fight your battles and rest him. It is time to prepare at watch the Lord work.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading 2 Chronicles 21-24
