Our King Is Coming Soon

Today’s Reading, Revelation 20-22

Focal Scripture: Revelation 22:20 “He who testifies about these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!”

Have you ever anticipated a meeting with someone? I have on a couple of occasions. The time I was filled with the most anticipation was the day I proposed to my wife. That day I had help from friends to pull off the big day. I remember these friends getting the basket of food ready for me to take. I even remember when I went and picked the basket up from them at their house and how they mentioned how nervous I looked. I was anticipating one of the biggest days of my adult life.

In today’s reading we read about biblical anticipation. In this last chapter of revelation we have come to the conclusion of the biblical cannon. The enemy has been defeated and the saints are in heaven. John lets everyone know this book is to be read and studied. It is to be mediated on and taken seriously. Then Jesus says “I am coming soon.” He will fulfill this prophecy; publicly, powerfully, and passionately. Then John declares “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” He is excited about Christ return.

So what about you? Are you excited about the coming return of Jesus? I can tell you that I am impatiently waiting for Jesus to come back. I am ready to have my faith turn to sight. I am ready to worship my savior in person. I long to be around the one who thought me lovely enough to die for my sins. This world gets heavy and burdensome. One day, in his presence, all that will matter will be Jesus. No more concerns and no more worries. Just worship and no more stress.

However, not everyone is excited for the coming return of Christ. Some are concerned over lost loved ones who do not know Jesus. Others are happy with how their life is currently going. Still others think that an eternity of worship is not what they signed up for when they became believers. If you have any negative thoughts I encourage you to examine your heart and determine if you have been changed. Why? Because when someone saves your life you have gratitude. When someone saves your soul you have a heart that wants to never leave their side.

No matter if you are excited or have a sense of dread, know this truth, our King is coming soon. We don’t know when but we do know it will be as the king of the universe. Let us declare with John “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!”

Tomorrow, I plan on giving a 2025 recap and 2026 preview
