What Do You Talk About?

Today’s Reading, 1 Kings 1-2 & Psalms 37, 71, 94

Focal Scripture: Psalms 71:15 “My mouth will tell about your righteousness and your salvation all day long, though I cannot sum them up.”

What you talk about reveals what is going on in your heart. It also shows others what is most important in your life. I have been around people who know how to manipulate other people and circumstances because they are masters at communication and use of words. I have also witnessed these same people reveal who they really are when they are in a small group setting t or behind closed doors. The speech changes and the words they use to talk about people, situations and places are vastly different. Their words reveal a heart that is evil and duplicitous. The words you use really do make a difference.

In today’s reading David declares that his mouth will declare the righteousness of God and his salvation. However, his righteousness and salvation are so great he can’t sum them up adequately. The Lord is great and greatly to be praised. The Lord is worthy of it all honor and it starts with the words that come out of a persons mouth.

The Bible declares this is numerous sections of scripture. No place is it more direct than in the book of James. It declared how powerful the tongue is and how words make a major impact on other people and a persons testimony. James even compares the tongue in a powerful way. It can start a blaze with a small spark and even steer a sheep. Even though it is small it is powerful and must be used wisely.

So what about you? How are your words used? This is definitely one of the areas that gets avoided in Christian circles. It is avoided because it is difficult to control and surrender to the Lord. Let me be very clear that a persons words and speech reveal whether or not they have been redeemed by Christ.

If you are a person who constantly gossips, demeans, talks about others, and lies you need to make sure you are a genuine follower of the Jesus of the Bible. Poor speech must be called out by others. This has to stop being a sin that is acceptable in Christian circles.

The only way to change this is to speak about the power and awesomeness of God. His righteousness should be on our lips. His salvation should be our focus. What you talk about reveals your heart and it reveals your theology.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Psalms 119
