Temptations Will Come

Today’s Reading, Luke 4-5

Focal Scripture: Luke 4:13 “After the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.”

There are certain things in life that get our attention. If you like food you know how easy it is to be tempted. Whether it’s sweets that call your name or a mouth watering bbq. The temptation to eat more than you need is real. This temptation can become so large that it affects your mind and your desires. Temptation is real.

In the reading today we see that Jesus was tempted by Satan. The spirit led him there and allowed it to take place. The interesting part of the temptation was that Satan tried all of his tricks. Left Jesus for a certain amount of time. This implies that Satan came back to tempt Jesus more than once. Satan was persistent and wanted to cause a problem.

Why does this matter? We need to know that temptations will come our way. We will be tempted to stray from God. We will be tempted to ignore scripture. Even tempted to compromise what we believe. Anything the devil can do to ruin our testimony and get us off track. Since we know it’s coming what is our answer.

The answer is to know the word. The more we spend time in scripture and with Jesus the more prepared we are for spiritual attacks. Our best defense against the enemy is to be on the offense with the word. Temptations can be overwhelming but the word of the Lord is more powerful.

So when temptations come trust the Lord and lean into the word. Jesus showed us how to fight one of our biggest struggles.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Luke 6-7
