The Enemy Opposes Prayer

Today’s Reading, Daniel 10-12

Focal Scripture: Daniel 10:13 “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me after I had been left there with the kings of Persia.”

Have you ever thought about how the enemy views prayer? I am specifically talking about Satan and the demons. When these enemies are aware of a person who has a prayerful heart they make it a point to hinder God’s work. Obviously we know that Satan and his demons are not all knowing and they can’t be present everywhere. This means that in their limited time and knowledge they discuss who has a dynamic prayer life. They know the people who cry out to God in faith.

In today’s reading we see this truth play out in a big way. Daniel prays for an answer to the visions he is seeing. However, the answer is delayed because there is a spiritual war that keeps the Angel from delivering the message to Daniel. The opposition was so strong that Michael the arch angel had to help in the battle. The enemy knew who Daniel was and what his prayer life could accomplish. The enemy knew that Daniel was not like everyone else. The enemy knew that prayer was important.

What we need to learn from today is that our enemy, Satan, hates prayer. Why? Because it calls on a Holy God to do a mighty work. Prayer brings the power of heaven down to mortal man. Prayer demonstrates that we can accomplish mush when God is in charge. Prayer is communion with the God of the universe and it has real power and real implications.

So the question I have for you and myself is this: Do our prayers get the attention of the enemy? Do we pray with such intensity and ferocity that we shake the foundations of the Earth? Better yet do we pray in such a way that the enemy wants to do battle with the ones who are giving us an answer.

These questions should challenge us and it should make us want to pray in ways that gets Satans attention. Yes, you heard me correctly we should pray such bold and powerful prayers that Satan himself desires to send his demons to oppose us personally.

Think about how things would change in our homes and our churches if we prayed this way. Have a heart of prayer where the enemy desires to oppose you every time your mouth opens for prayer.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Hosea 1-7
