Today’s Reading, Psalms 3, 4, 12, 13, 28, & 55
Focal Scripture: Psalms 4:3 “Know that the Lord has set apart the faithful for himself; the Lord will hear when I call to him.”
Do you ever feel like your prayers are stagnant? Or when you pray, they go no further than the ceiling of the room you are currently located in at that moment. Right now, I am in one of those seasons in my life. I am praying, and it almost seems pointless. I am calling out to the Lord, and it feels like I am speaking to myself. This season of prayer is frustrating and demoralizing spiritually.
In today’s reading, David is crying out to the Lord. He is brutally transparent and honest in his thinking. He is also extremely positive and understands how the Lord works in the lives of those who are faithful. David knows that the Lord has set apart the faithful for himself. He also knows that the Lord will hear his prayers. This brings confidence to the life of David. It also brings more passionate prayers.
So, how is your prayer life at the moment? If you are like me and it seems as if the Lord doesn’t hear, know that he does, and he cares about you deeply. I know how frustrating it is to pray and not get an answer. Here is my advice to help you through this season.
- Pray more, not less.
- Expect God to answer.
- Be honest with your struggles.
- Ask others to pray with you and on your behalf.
- Journal your struggles.
- Remind yourself of how God has come through for you in the past.
Prayer is easy when we get quick responses from God. Prayer is difficult when he makes us wait. Especially in today’s culture, we are accustomed to getting immediate answers and responses. When we don’t, we tend to give up and move on to the next task or goal. Thankfully, prayer is about endurance, not just immediate results.
So how much are you willing to endure in your prayer life? How much are you willing to suffer to seek biblical wisdom and answers? Your prayer life will reveal your heart and your endurance. Keep the faith and trust the Lord.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading 2 Samuel 16-18
