The Lord Will Give Rest

Today’s Reading 2 Samuel 4-7

Focal Scripture: 2 Samuel 7:1 “When the king had settled into his palace and the Lord had given him rest on every side from all his enemies”

David has now been given rest. Not just personal rest but rest from his enemies. David was in a constant battle to get what was promised to him. He either was fighting those within his country or he was fighting those without.

We see here that David did not find rest from without but the Lord gave it to him. Rest from the Lord is what our souls need. As skilled as David was, blessed, and even anointed by God he could not find rest from his troubles on his own.

The implications for believers today are heavy. We know that we will have enemies. These enemies will be from people we know and people we don’t. Dealing with them will cause a strain on our lives. You can’t be in that situation and it not be difficult.

However, we have to trust that as long as we are faithful God will take care of us and give us rest. It may seem like nothing is going right. Enemies may have their eyes set on you to destroy you but they won’t be able to because God is sovereign.

I have learned over the years that people usually think they win when you’re down. Narratives get spun and agendas become the priority. But if you trust God he will take care of you and give you rest. He will also take care of your enemies.

Being a believer in God’s sovereignty means you have to trust every situation. Even when you don’t see what he is up to in your life.

Rest will come but it will only come from the Lord.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 2 Samuel 8-12
