Long Battles Are Necessary but Can be Exhausting

Today’s Reading 2 Samuel 1-3

Focal Scripture: 2 Samuel 3:1 “During the long war between the house of Saul and the house of David, David was growing stronger and the house of Saul was becoming weaker.“
‭‭

David is a man of great character. When he finds out Saul is dead he mourns him along with his friend Jonathan. His character is so great that he even writes a song for Saul for others to remember him.

David then becomes the anointed king but others decide to move Sauls son to the position of king. When this happens lines are drawn and battles will begin. David during this time is growing in strength but it only happens because the war is long. Quick victories don’t teach much.

The lesson for believers in this passage applies to learning from long and difficult battles. When events come easily there is a tendency to not learn valuable lessons. However, the greater the struggle the greater the preparation for the future.

This is especially true in our spiritual walk. When we struggle through areas in our lives we learn to be dependent on God. We learn how to trust more deeply. We learn that the struggle for success is a great teacher.

This lesson can be transformative for the believer. Embracing the long battles should feed us for the long haul. So when you face a long battle fight but also soak in everything around you because it has something to teach you.

In our spiritual lives it will teach us dependency on Christ.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 2 Samuel 4-7
