The Maker of Heaven and Earth

Today’s Reading, Psalms 120-125

Focal Scripture: Psalms 121:2 “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Where do you look for help when life gets difficult? There are people who look to books and knowledge. Other people look to friends and family. Still others look to the stars and mystics to help them when things go sideways. Then other people look to themselves as the answer to their struggles. Maybe it is not any of these choices, but know matter what, we all look for help when life gets difficult.

In today’s verse we see where the Psalmist looked for help when life got difficult. He looked to the Lord the maker of heaven and Earth. The writer understood that the Lord is not a created being but the one who creates. This simple understanding sets a tone that changed his thinking. By acknowledging the Lord is the one who creates it also acknowledges the fact that he is the one who is in charge. A simple declaration leads to a profound truth.

So I ask you this question today, where do you look for help? Obviously, you can get help from a variety of places. Sometimes that help will be positive and sometimes it will be negative. However, if we want help that is true and always right, we need to rely on the Lord. He is the maker of everything and he knows us better than anyone else we will ever encounter.

That is my challenge to you and myself today. When life gets difficult look to the Lord first. Understand his power and his ability. It doesn’t mean we will get everything we want and ask for, but it does mean he will help us in the exact way that we need. We just have to get out of our own way and trust the creator of the universe.

So who do you trust today? Do you look to the Lord for help or do you try to find help in other forms. If you do struggle trusting the Lord it’s time to get to the reason why and put that away. It is time to grow in your faith and be prepared for God to move in big and mighty ways within our faith journey.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Psalms 126-132
