Today’s Reading, Romans 8-10
Focal Scripture: Romans 8:5 “For those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their minds set on the things of the Spirit.”
What is your mind set on during the day? What is it set on during times of gladness and times of trouble? I think we all can agree that our minds are set on what is most important to us in our lives. In simplest words; What do you think about the most during the day? Whatever that is, reveals what has captivated your mind the most. This can be something positive in your life but if it takes the place of the Lord it is an idol that must be dealt with quickly.
In today’s reading Paul makes a clear statement about a persons mind. He says that a person who lives according to the flesh has their mind set on the things of the flesh. This means a person who does what he wants is a slave to its desires. It means that their mind is focused on everything else rather than God. However, the opposite is also true. A person who lives according to the spirit has a mind that is focused on God and his will for their life.
So what about you? What is your mind set on today? Are you a person that only wants to fulfill the desires of his flesh? This means you sin willfully. It means you are captivated by your own wants and desires. It also means your mind thinks about these things often. If that is you, know there is hope and deliverance available.
Hope comes in the person of Jesus. When we are given a new spirit, we are also given a new mind. This new mind desires to do the will of God. When our minds are focused on God it will affect our choices and how we live. So what do your actions demonstrate? Does it show a person focused on pleasing the father? If not, surrender your mind to the Lord and ask him to renew your thinking.
The greatest revealer of our thought life is the way we live. It shows us our personal commitment to the Lord and his calling on our lives.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading Romans 11-13
