All Scripture Matters

Today’s Reading, Luke 23-24

Focal Scripture: Luke 24:27 “Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.”

There are some people who are avid book fans. Take Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings for instance. These fans know the books, the stories, the plots and even details about the characters. If you have conversations with them and get details wrong you will be corrected. Passionate would not be a good explanation of their devotion.

In today’s reading Jesus is walking to Emmaus and encounters two disciples. They were discussing the events in Jerusalem including Jesus death, burial and resurrection. On this journey Jesus begins to speak with them and explains how all of scripture points to him. It must have been an amazing conversation. Having scripture explained rightly and powerfully. Getting to know the book that gives hope and life.

I have noticed over the years that people are more passionate about regular books than they are the scriptures. People will know every detail about a scene in a novel but can’t explain to you any scripture. Passion is missing from their Bible reading and discussion.

I am not talking about debating topics. I am talking about just knowing what it says. Knowing the intent and even the intent of the author of the Bible. Many believers treat scripture as secondary to other sources of information.

My challenge for you today is to examine your view of scripture. Is it important? Do you know it? Or do other things in life have your affections more than the word? If they do I encourage you to lay those things aside and make the scriptures a priority in your life.

Trust that the Holy Spirit will reveal to you the truth of the word and have your hearts burning for it.

If believers are not passionate about the scriptures we are missing out on having our faith built up.

Tomorrow I plan on reading John 1-2
