Today’s Reading, 1 Chronicles 28-29 & 2 Chronicles 1
Focal Scripture: 1 Chronicles 28:9 ““As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands the intention of every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.”
We all know what it is like to look for something. Maybe you misplaced your keys and you go searching for them all over the house. You move belongings and you even ask others for help. The entire time you are on a mission to find what you are looking for because you need those keys to drive your vehicle. Often when you search for one item you uncover others items you didn’t know were missing. The searching forces us to be intentional and can be intense and uncover many hidden things.
This is where we are today in our reading. David speaks to his son Solomon and lets him know that the Lord searches every heart. He not only knows the thoughts of our hearts but the reason why we have those thoughts. God knows if our choices are with good intent or ill intent. He exposes our thought process. David also expresses to Solomon that if you seek after God he will find him. This is important because we know the process is not always quick as we would like.
The takeaway that we need apply today is that our hearts are laid bare before the Lord. This applies to believers and unbelievers. He knows what we think, believe, desire, and plan. Then he knows our thought process behind what we want to accomplish. He knows the internal struggle and the debates. He exposes our hearts and reveals what is really driving us to make the decisions we do on a daily basis.
So let’s make this practical today. Think about a decision you are working through right now at home or work. You are not sure what to do as you think through every scenario. However, as you work through it God is examining your heart and your motives. He is dissecting your intentions. He sees your motives.
The challenge we have as believers is to make sure our decisions and thoughts are biblical. To put aside gossip and self promotion and to make sure it’s not about us. When we make decisions the internal dialogue behind them reveals our true character. It may be hidden from the world but it is not hidden from God. He is the one who searches us in powerful and mighty ways.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading 2 Chronicles 2-5
