God Desires to Fellowship With His Chosen People

Today’s Reading Exodus 25-27

Focal Scripture: Exodus 25:22 “I will meet with you there above the mercy seat, between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the testimony; I will speak with you from there about all that I command you regarding the Israelites.”

Moses is still on the mountain and he is receiving very detailed information from God. In chapters 25 – 27 God goes into much detail in how he wants the tent of meeting to be constructed. He explains how big it should be, how it should look, the purpose for each construction. Everything from curtains, to rods, to rings, God wants done a certain way.

We can surmise from this reading that God cares about how we approach him in worship. God wants deep fellowship. God explained the mercy seat to Moses and this is the place that offerings and blood would be sprinkled to forgive sins. God then tells Moses that this is the place that I will come to meet you and speak with you in person. This was to be an intimate setting between Moses and God and one that would be life changing.

Those are big words since Moses has already experienced many life changing moments. He was supposed to be drowned but instead was put in a basket. Adopted by Pharaoh but raised by his own mother. Educated in Egypt. Loved his people. Ran after he killed and Egyptian. Tended animals in the wilderness. Was spoken to by God in a burning bush. Was called to lead the Israelites from their oppression. Used by God to perform awesome signs and wonders. Now on top of a mountain and being told by God I want to have an intimate relationship with you. This is a remarkable moment that can get lost if you allow it when you recount Moses life.

Just as God wanted to meet with Moses and have a deep relationship with him he also desires the same for each one of his followers. We can get so distracted by life that one of our main purposes in life is to enjoy fellowship with God. He wants to meet with us and meet with us daily. This relationship that God has with Moses he wants with all of his people.

I am not sure today where you are in your personal walk. I know that sin, doubt, frustration, and even unanswered prayers might make you think that God is far away. Be encouraged that God loves you and wants to know you more intimately than anyone you know or will ever meet. Intimacy with God is attainable. Unfourantley, we often miss it because we are focusing on ourselves and not on God.

Let us take a lesson from Moses and do what he did on top of the mountain. Get to an isolated place, stop, focus on God’s voice and listen to what he says. After all is says in James 4:8 “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double minded.”

Climb the mountain today and draw near to God.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Exodus 28-29
