Honest and Heartfelt Prayers

Today’s Reading, Psalms 86-89

Focal Scripture: Psalms 88:1-3 “Lord, God of my salvation, I cry out before you day and night. May my prayer reach your presence; listen to my cry. For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol.”

One of the greatest attributes about the book of Psalms is the honest prayers that are written down. Too often we try to hide our thoughts from God when we pray. Here we see honest prayers that reveal a heavy heart.

This writer is honest that he has been crying out day and night to God. He desires his prayers to reach the presence of God. He longs to be heard. He is going through troubles and feels like he is near death.

Have you ever been there? So overwhelmed and desperate for God to hear you and do a work in your life and spirit. Troubles that overwhelm you and you just want an answer to your struggles. Yet you cry out and maybe you don’t get relief.

I want to encourage you today to keep crying out to God in prayer. He knows your need. He knows your desperation. Take comfort that your prayers are heard and are being answered. Be happy that our God hears and knows us intimately.

Continue with your heartfelt prayers. God will reveal his answer and path for your life in his timing. We just need to be desperate for God when we pray and not go through the motions.

Honest prayers grow us and move the heart of God.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Psalms 90-95
