Jesus Has Always Been

Today’s Reading, John 7-8

Focal Scripture: John 8:58 “Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.”

Knowing something lasts forever changes the way you view it in your life. This knowledge gives confidence. It gives hope. It also gives a mindset that what you have is authentic.

In our reading today Jesus is having a conversation with the religious elite. They are wanting to know how Jesus can be making the claims that he makes concerning himself. That he is the one who brings life and if people believe in him they will never experience death. Then Jesus tells them that Abraham rejoices to see his day. The religious told him he was crazy and he wasn’t even old enough to be alive with Abraham.

Jesus response is powerful. He tells them that before Abraham was alive he always was. He used the same word I AM that was used in the Old Testament. He is telling the religious that he was before Abraham and is ion equal footing with God. He wants them to know he is the source of life and especially of life eternal.

For us as believers we need to know that Jesus is not a created being. He has always existed and will always exist. He holds everything together. He is the source of life eternal. He gives hope and forgiveness. We can have confidence when we worship it is not a new person we have come in contact with. Instead we come in contact with God eternal from everlasting to everlasting.

This truth should change how we live and how we worship. It should challenge us to live with confidence. It should encourage us to have hope. Our God is dependent upon no one and nothing. Our God is the primary source. Jesus has seen everything and knows everything.

Jesus has always been.

Let us live and worship this truth in our daily lives.

Tomorrow I plan on reading John 9-10
