Knowing Your Purpose Matters

Today’s Reading, John 1-2

Focal Scripture: John 1:29 “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

Knowing your purpose matters. Right now in my life I know I am called to work with teenagers. I also know I am called to preach the word. However, right now it is not looking the way I had planned. For years I worked on staff in the local church serving and leading young people. It was a privilege and a joy to experience this gift and lead others. I had the opportunity to be around some of the best people in ministry I could have ever imagined.

Unbeknownst to me God would use circumstances and ungodly leadership to shake me at my core and move me from what I thought I would never leave from in my ministry tenure. On one hand I am sad and on the other I am excited because I don’t know what the Lord is up to in my life.

Why do I bring this up today? Because in today’s reading John knows his purpose. His main purpose on Earth was to proclaim to everyone that Jesus is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. He knew his mission, it was clear and concise. John was all in his calling and whom he served. John told everyone that Jesus was the promised Messiah and he would not only deliver them politically but most importantly spiritually.

Right now, I am trying to figure out the details of how God wants to use me in ministry. I have some ideas and I have a goal in mind. The big question is does that align with God’s mission for my life. Even though I am in doubt about the details, I know this for a fact, I can claim to everyone and anyone that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

So what about you? Do you know your purpose? Even if you are struggling to figure out the details I can tell you this for a certainty Tell others about Jesus and what he came to do for you and for them. We can never go wrong with that mindset and heart.

So my prayer for you is what I pray for myself right now. I desire to follow the Lord through whatever open doors he gives me. To share him through words and my lifestyle. To live in a way that brings him glory.

My hearts desire is to know my purpose and follow it with my entire being.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading John 3-4
