The Awe – Inspiring King of the Universe

Today’s Reading, Psalms 46-50

Focal Scripture: Psalms 47:1-2 “Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with a jubilant cry. For the Lord, the Most High, is awe-inspiring, a great King over the whole earth.”

Have you ever been very excited about something? I know in the south where we live many people get excited about sports. Especially football or baseball with their kids. You can watch parents cheer, become passionate fans and clap when things go well. You can see the excitement and the exuberance. There is no doubt about the joy and excitement that they are experiencing in that moment.

In today’s verse we see a different type of excitement and joy. It is focused on God and just how awe-inspiring he is to the entire world. The psalmist here gives many descriptive phrases. He says the people should clap their hands and shout with a loud cry. Then he explains why they should behave in such a manner. Since God is awe- inspiring and a great king, our hearts should praise him accordingly. Our mindset about God will determine how we worship and it will be able to be seen physically.

So how should believers take this information and apply it to their lives. First, I want you to be excited and cheer on your children. Root for them and encourage them with as much passion as you can whether in the field or the classroom. Next, take that same passion and apply it to how we view and respond to God. Our passion for God should outshine our passion for our children.

As much as we love our children we should love God more as we live this life. Nobody else has given us their son to forgive our sins. Nobody else has sent the Holy Spirit to give us power and sustain us in our walks. God deserves clapping, passion, and excitement. Not for show but because he is worthy.

I personally struggle with showing outward emotion. I often feel it on the inside but I stay pretty calm for the most part in my life. However, I have to wonder if I am missing out on my entire person being sold out to Christ. As I journey through this, I challenge you to find out how you and I can be more expressive in our worship because of the awe inspiring King of the universe.

After all our hearts should be full of joy because of who he is and what he has done.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Psalms 51-57
