The Lord Does Great Things

Today’s Reading, Job 35-37

Focal Scripture: Job 37:5 “God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend.”

What is the greatest thing you have seen in person? Was it a natural wonder? A specific sporting event? Maybe it was the birth of your kids. Perhaps the greatest event you witnessed was an accomplishment that you made but others doubted that it would be accomplished. No matter what the great thing is in your life you remember it vividly. You can explain it to others and it often seems unimaginable. That is how great things work in life, they are reminders of achievements and something bigger than our daily life.

However, knowing that God does great things is a welcome reminder that we often skip by far to quickly. Many times God is treated like a genie. People want from him but forget that what he gives is needed and incomprehensible. He does great things for his namesake we just happen to be the beneficiaries of his greatness and his work.

In this passage we clearly see that God is the one who does great things in the life of Job and others. We see that his voice is powerful and his decisions are perfect. This knowledge should change everything when we are struggling in our personal lives. Because we know that a perfect God doesn’t make mistakes and he always does great things. Every decision and choice is great. Nothing he thinks, does, or puts into motion is wrong or a mistake. God is the GOAT. We just don’t view him that way when we approach him in worship or even in prayer because we are often more focused on our problems.

We should be encouraged by the thought that God is great. God does great things all the time because that is just who he is, it is his character. Even when it appears to be bad for us in the moment his decisions are still great. However, if one believes that God is always good, that he doesn’t make mistakes and he knows what’s best. Our trust must be in him for everything. We can’t put our trust in others or even ourselves.

So the challenge for us today is to change our thinking. Remember that God always does great things, even in our personal lives. Even when we don’t see it in the moment. Job had questions, job trusted God. We need to have a faith that understand our God is greater than any problem or situation. Our God is perfect.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Job 38-39
